This clear and easy to read frying oil thermometer for deep frying food is of the highest quality and backed by Thermometer World’s quality promise.
It’s the perfect kitchen tool for measuring hot oils, making sure your deep frying oil is at the correct temperature prior to cooking – and during frying.
The thermometer is calibrated at 180 Degrees C and is designed specifically for frying with oil and deep frying.
Tips for using this Frying Oil Thermometer
Using your oil frying thermometer heat your oil to 160 Degrees C for ‘low’ temperature frying, 180 Degrees C for ‘medium’ temperature frying and 190 Degrees C for ‘high’ temperature frying. Avoid heating your oil any higher than 190 Degrees C to stay safe and prevent fire.
Once your oil is up to temperature, you can manually test the oil temperature by dropping a cube of bread into the oil. It should brown in colour in 30 to 40 seconds when the oil is at 180 Degrees C or a ‘medium’ heat.
Can this oil thermometer also be used for other boiling liquids?
Yes, this dial thermometer is highly versatile and can be used not only as a frying oil thermometer, but also as a sugar thermometer for candy making, caramel making, jam making and more. However, we recommend our purpose made sugar thermometer which has specific markings on it showing the required and recommended temperatures for working with certain hot liquids such as caramel and boiling fruits for jam.
What kind of thermometer do you use for oil? Do you need a special thermometer for oil?
As frying oil can be a danger in the kitchen if not monitored closely, it’s best to use a thermometer that’s dedicated to measuring the high temperatures of oil without distorting or putting you at risk during temperature measurements.
Short hand held temperature probes can be used for cooking oil, but should be avoided due to the risk they pose by requiring that you hold the probe above the hot oil whilst taking measurement.
Instead, a large dial frying oil thermometer which is “hands free” and attaches to the cooking oil container should be used so that frying oil temperature can be monitored continuously and safely without the need for you to put your hands, face or arms anywhere near the hot frying oil.
Can a candy thermometer be used for oil?
Temperatures for making candy and cooking or frying with cooking oil can be similar, therefore in theory you can use a candy thermometer for cooking oil. At Thermometer World we advise that you should use a specifically designed cooking oil thermometer where possible as the depth of liquid / liquid level involved in cooking with frying oil vs candy making can vary significantly and place very different requirements on the way the thermometer is attached to the cooking container.
We have a specially designed sugar thermometer for candy, which can be used for frying with oil, however if you regularly cook with oil and make candy, we’d recommend having dedicated thermometers for each purpose.
Our deep frying thermometer has a clear easy to read temperature dial face with a 150mm stainless steel probe length. The oil and deep fat frying thermometer indicates temperatures from 0 to 300C in 10C divisions.
